Miguel Movie Review

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2
By Miguel Martinez Mendoza

It is said that sequels are never as great as the first one, but maybe there are exceptions in the upcoming holidays of Halloween. Yes, Paranormal Activity comes to us again and this time from the creativity of Director Tod Williams. In this occasion, Williams follows the $uccessful formula of supernatural demons and evil presences that stalk innocent victims.  The drama will keep you on the edge of your seat for 91 minutes feeling a constant threat and sense of menace.

Paranormal Activity 2 is recommended if you are fan of paranormal TV shows, demons, ghost and haunted houses or just want to challenge your friends to see who leaves the room first, or just to find an excuse to give comfort and hold the hand of someone you like.  The supernatural power of the MPAA classified this movie as 'R' for the use of language and violent material.

PLOT
Paranormal Activity 2 set the scenario in California where a regular family celebrates the arrival of their newborn baby “Hunter.” Probably the movie is a little slow in the beginning, but we can see some familiar events passing from different cut scenes of videotape.  Time later, probably some months, everything continues in what it is a nice and perfect home. We see Hunter a little growth and the family doing their normal lives, but something that they do not know is that with the arrival of Hunter to the family the evil supernatural manifestations arrived too.

Most of the movie is projected through videotaping and a security system that is installed after the family found their house completely trashed. Kristi Rey (Sprague Grayden) and Hunter are the firsts two who experience the abnormal activity in home. Dan Rey (Brian Bolan) playing his role as Kirsti’s husband makes a good performance, and Ali Rey (Molly Ephraim) complements the drama in this nightmare. Also, we can see how the two stories of Paranormal Activity are linked and nailed so well trought Katie (Katie Featherston), and her boyfriend Micah (Micah Sloat). With the pass of days, the Rey family started to experience the unexplainable. Night by night the levels of anxiety increases, it makes you nervous and scares.  What else can you ask from a horror movie?

SUMMARY JUDGMENT
In general the movie does not disappoint, but some people might think that the only paranormal activity in this movie is how they made it to get a budget of $2,750,000 (estimated). There are some differences in comparison with the first part, but those differences are what make it interesting. The chronology of events is intense and it takes you in different levels of anxiety. The camera techniques are simple and make you go into the story, which might be familiar with The Blair Witch Project (1999) of Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. But Paranormal Activity 2 is better and so far of being a disappointment. So, if you missed the first part of Paranormal Activity, that does not mean that you cannot enjoy the second part.
